Project HEALTH Circuit Training

Project HEALTH teaches a weekly circuit training class with TNABA.  This class is open to the public and fully inclusive of ALL abilities.  Each class opens with a warm-up of light exercises and stretches to get the body warmed up.  Then we move into Circuit Training which combines strength training (with resistance bands), toning exercises and cardio to get the blood pumping, muscles building and calories burning.  The last 15 minutes of the class are cool-down moves that focus on toning, balance and flexibility. Come early for nutrition tips and discussion.

Ø  TNABA members = FREE; nonmembers = $5

Project HEALTH- Helping Every American Learn To be Healthy is a program of Sports 4 All Foundation (S4AF).  The mission of S4AF is to improve the quality of life of individuals with disabilities by providing funding, equipment, programming and education to enable full participation in sports and recreational activities.  Project HEALTH is funded and supported by the TN Council on Developmental Disabilities, Baptist Healing Trust, the Predators Foundation and Metro Parks and Recreation Department.

General HEALTH Tips

1 lb = 3,500 calories
Translation: To burn 1 pound per week; you must cut or burn and extra 500 calories per day.

Plan of Action

Ø  Increase fruits and vegetables; Decrease meat and processed foods.

Ø  Increase physical activity.  Try walking ½ mile every day until you can walk 2 miles per day.  1 miles typically = 100 calories.

Ø  Instead of catching up with a friend over coffee or dinner, meet them for a walk.  It is perfect for chatting.  You should stay at a pace that gets you out of breath but you can still carry on a conversation.

Ø  Find yourself sitting at home while you are watching television, listening to music, talking with your family, be creative and do sit-ups, side leans, knee raises, anything to keep moving instead of sitting still.
